C&B Machinery Will Exhibit at Gear Expo 2017, The American Gear Manufacturers Association Hosts the Gear Industry’s Premier Event

COLUMBUS, OH – C&B Machinery is pleased to announce that from October 24-26th, it will exhibit at Gear Expo 2017, the gear industry’s premier event. Thousands of gear industry professionals are expected to attend Gear Expo in Columbus, OH, to discover cost-effective solutions and new technologies.

Gear Expo, owned by the American Gear Manufacturers Association, offers learning opportunities and educational options designed to give drive technology professionals and those that serve the industry, tools to succeed in the future. EDCLC and Ann Arbor SPARK Recognize Livingston County Economic Successes

Economic progress and successes were celebrated at the Economic Development Council of Livingston County’s (EDCLC) annual meeting, co-hosted by Ann Arbor SPARK. The organizations also honored organizations and businesses that demonstrated outstanding business leadership in the last year, and made significant investments in Livingston County. Pinckney Community Schools was honored as Talent Innovator of the Year for its Cyber Range, and Tribar Manufacturing and the Flint Mass Transportation Authority (MTA) were awarded Economic Development Partners of the Year.

Pinckney Community Schools was honored for being awarded grant money from the State of Michigan to establish a Cyber Range Hub at Pinckney High School. A Cyber Range Hub is a facility that contains a computing and networking infrastructure to provide certification courses, cybersecurity training exercises, and product hardening/testing through a direct connection to the Michigan Cyber Range. The Michigan Cyber Range is hosted and facilitated by Merit Network in partnership with the State of Michigan and with the sponsorship of DTE Energy.

Tribar Manufacturing and the MTA were honored for their partnership, which led to a growing relationship between the MTA and other Livingston County businesses. MTA is bringing talent from the Flint area to Livingston County, helping to fulfill the demand for talent in the region.

New Product: Clamp Bore Microfinishing Machine

C&B Machinery has received multiple orders for its latest generation Model CBV-3 Clamp Bore microfinishing machine. The automotive industry is striving to reduce transmission gear noise in electric vehicles; to do this the internal components must be more precise than ever. C&B Machinery’s new Clamp Bore disc grinders were specifically selected for their high precision, high performance, quality, dependability, and maintainability.

C&B Machinery’s new design provides for tighter control of face to bore perpendicularity and improved lead variation that the industry requires. As well as other industry leading benefits such as controlled stock removal on both symmetrical and non-symmetrical components, tighter face to bore perpendicularity, reduced footprint and overall reduced operating cost over traditional methods.

The new machine processes the face of each gear in an independent cycle while the component is located and clamped using the ID as the datum. With multiple stations, the gear faces are sequentially ground to maintain a high throughput. C&B Machinery’s new clamp bore disc grinding machines are available in a variety of models and tooling configurations. This allows us to meet the customers’ requirements pertaining to throughput and the flow of parts through in-plant automation.

25 Years of Dedication!

Jeff Allen, President of C&B Machinery, has been a part of C & B for 25 years, as of January 2013.  Jeff started with C & B by doing technical drawings on the side for Joe Parker, Founder & CEO.  Jeff then joined C & B as a full-time engineer.  Jeff had been working as Final Inspector in the Quality Control Department of
R & B Manufacturing.

Jeff has had a passion for drawing and mechanics since he was in the middle school.  Jeff boasts that even on a standard engineering board he can design faster than any of the engineers can in AutoCAD.  Before joining C&B Machinery, Jeff pursued a degree in architectural design at Lawrence Technological University.  Along the way he married his lovely wife, Barb, and together they have three daughters.  Their oldest, Melissa, has recently become engaged and is starting to plan her wedding.  Their middle daughter, Kristina, just purchased her first home.  Their youngest, Kayla, is pursuing a career in nursing.

One of Jeff’s favorite memories in the last 25 years was watching one of the original designs he was involved in being built, tested, and a quality run-off by C&B.  Jeff, of course, has always enjoyed the family-like atmosphere which C&B Machinery promotes through its company picnics, golf outings and special events.  He has enjoyed working with and getting to know all of C&B’s staff members.

“Quality Minded for the Future!”

In 2012, C&B Machinery developed three impressive grinding cells for General Motors, Linamar and Federal Mogul. The engineering of each grinder resulted in production advancements for non-coplanar connecting rods (step rods).

The DG-2H-RE model reciprocator, designed for General Motors’ Volt, was the first machine to simultaneously configure a coplanar connecting rod into a stepped rod. Impressively, the DG-2H-RE also has the ability to produce a completely finished part including the loading, unloading, part rinse, and blow off in 21.8 seconds (165 PPH). The process for General Motors required a crank reduction of 1.715 mm per face and a pin stock removal of 0.3mm. This same cell can be easily converted to grind coplanar connecting rod for the Cruz.

Linamar’s Flex cell was developed towards their lower volume non-coplanar connecting rod production process. C&B’s advanced swing arm technology provided a pin reduction of 4.9 mm.  A rough cut step grind (OP10) directly followed by a finish grind cycle was achieved in a single load. The Flex cell also provided a stock removal of 1.75 for the crank end in a cycle time of 39.6 seconds (66 PPH).

One of the greatest accomplishments of the year came with a non-coplanar reciprocator grinder designed for Federal-Mogul. The crank end stock removal requirement was 2.3 mm per face and pin end reduction of 0.3 mm per face. Not only did C&B Machinery provide a reciprocator meeting those specifications; but they did so with a floor cycle time of just 18 seconds (200 PPH).  The cycle time includes the loading and unloading process steps.

C&B continues to provide cutting edge turnkey and integrated product solutions. They successfully launched the newest version of their Vertical Micro Finishing Clamp Bore grinding cell.

Klein Tools Purchases Double Disc Grinder

Klein Tools, Inc. is a global manufacturer of premium hand tools, and has selected C & B Machinery to provide a double disc grinder used in the manufacturing of pliers.  C & B Machinery develops and builds grinding systems for manufacturers around the world.  In this case, it will build a “Rotary Carrier Tooled” double disc grinding cell for Klein Tools’ new Texas plant.

The grinding cell is designed to grind the faces of Klein Tools’ family of pliers.  This machine will be designed to accept different configurations, as required to be flexible for producing Klein Tools’ wide range of pliers.  Double disc grinding is utilized to finish grind both faces simultaneously, so the cost per piece is reduced and the return on investment is faster.  This machine will produce a quality finished ground plier every (3) three seconds to meet Klein Tools’ growing demand.
