Double or Dual Disc Grinding is a highly efficient method of removing equal stock from opposing faces of a part, normally symmetrical stock removal. The Double Disc Grinding process will also produce the highest level of Flatness and Parallelism on opposing surfaces.

With Disc Grinding the grinding is done using the face of the grinding wheel where with cylindrical grinding you are using the diameter of the grinding wheel.

Generally, Double Disc Grinding is used for high productivity, however production rates can vary greatly from over 40,000 parts per hour to just a few parts per hour depending on the disc grinders tooling configuration, part size, material, and stock removal.

Here are a few points to consider when deciding if Double Disc Grinding may be a good fit for your application.

  • The part needs to have a somewhat equal surface area on the opposing surfaces.
  • The size of the part needs to be in relation to the size of the grinding wheels being used.
  • The part’s overall length/diameter to the width needs to be within a relationship.
  • The part thickness characteristics need to be in relation to the opposing face being ground
